From cloth to the next fitting

The film is planned for the build. Here are its five scenes and the full transcript, so nothing pretends to play.

Fictional atelier. Illustrative film. Stills are AI-generated.

Start with how you wear it

Scene 1 of 5 · 0:00

“Start with the clothes you need and the places you wear them.”

On screen: A cloth fold opens to two swatches. The camera holds still.

What happens in this film

A cloth is chosen, a fitting is planned, and an illustrative jacket moves through fitting and finishing. The scenes explain the process; they do not show a real client commission.

Two-piece suit

A jacket and trousers planned around how you wear them.

We start with where you will wear it. A baste fitting gives an early view of the balance; a forward fitting checks the more complete garment.

The cutters’ hands

One paper pattern. The same cutter from measuring to fitting.

Adrian Leung cuts every pattern by hand in the Tsim Sha Tsui workroom. Evan Ho carries the same pattern to London, New York, Sydney and Singapore, so the person who measured you is the person who fits you.

Evan told me at the first London visit that the suit would need two more trips. It did, and the forward fitting fixed a shoulder I had stopped noticing on every other jacket I own.

Mira answered my first email with three questions and a plan for the Singapore visits. Nothing was rushed, and the jacket is the one I pack for every trip.

The coat took a week longer than the plan because we changed the length at the forward fitting. Mira told me the new date the same day. Worth the wait for a Sydney winter.

I fitted both visits into lunch breaks. Adrian had the baste jacket ready when I walked in, and we were done in forty minutes.

Your commission, step by step

Six weeks: measuring, two fittings and a handover.

We start in person, with the clothes you need and the time you have. Your cutter agrees the fitting plan before work begins.

Read the whole process
  1. 01 · Day 0

    Measure

We discuss the cloth and take measurements in person, then agree the fitting plan.

  2. 02 · Day 14

    Baste fitting

First fitting, garment partly assembled. An early view of the shape and balance.

  3. 03 · Day 28

    Forward fitting

Later fitting, closer to finished. We check the details before finishing.

  4. 04 · Day 42

    Collect or ship

A final check, then collection in Hong Kong, or shipping once every fitting is done.

Suit and jacket baseline, counted from measuring and moved to the next open workshop day. An overcoat takes about a week longer; a shirt needs one trial fitting and about four weeks. Extra adjustments can add visits and time.
